Wayside horn

Ok, so you know how sometimes when you're walking and you hear a loud noise like a beep or a honk? That's because there's something called a horn that makes a really loud noise to warn people or cars that something is coming.

Well, on train tracks, they also have horns to warn people and cars that a train is coming. But instead of having the horn on the train, they have it on the side of the tracks. This is called a wayside horn.

The wayside horn is really loud and can be heard from far away, so people can hear it even if the train is still really far away. The horn is connected to the train's system so that it automatically goes off when the train is crossing a road or when there are people nearby.

This makes it much safer for people because they can hear the horn and know that a train is coming, even if they can't see it yet. So remember, if you hear a really loud honking noise near train tracks, it's probably a wayside horn letting you know that a train is coming!
