Wear leveling

So imagine you have a box of crayons and you love the red one so much that you use it all the time until it becomes so small that it breaks into bits. This is kind of like what happens to flash memory in electronic devices like your phone or computer. When you save files or take pictures, the memory cells that store the data get used up over time. But some cells get used a lot more than others because they are always being written to and erased. This can cause those cells to wear out faster and eventually stop working, which can cause your device to slow down or even crash.

Wear leveling is like having a really good mom who tells you not to use just one crayon all the time, but to use different colors so that they all wear out evenly. In the same way, wear leveling is a technique used by electronics companies to help prevent any one memory cell from getting overused. It works by spreading out the data across different cells so that each one gets used the same amount of times. This makes it so that your device lasts longer and runs more smoothly.
