ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Welsh American

So, imagine you were born in America but your ancestors came all the way from a country called Wales. Maybe your great-grandparents or great-great-grandparents moved to America from Wales because they wanted to start a new life, find a job, or maybe even because they were looking for adventure.

Being Welsh American means that you have two different parts of your identity: your American culture and your Welsh heritage. You might celebrate American holidays like Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July, but you might also have some Welsh traditions that your family has passed down over the years, like making leek soup, singing Welsh songs, or wearing a traditional Welsh outfit.

Sometimes being Welsh American can be a bit confusing because you might not know everything about Welsh culture or speak Welsh fluently. But it also means that you have a rich and interesting family history that connects you to another part of the world. You might even be curious to learn more about Wales and visit someday to see where your ancestors came from.
