Westinghouse Works, 1904
So imagine a long long time ago, in the year 1904, there was a really big factory called the Westinghouse Works. It was a place where people would make all kinds of machines and things that helped make life easier for other people.
Inside the Westinghouse Works, there were lots of different rooms with big machines that did all kinds of things, like making light bulbs, making engines for trains and making generators that made electricity.
There were so many different machines that it might make your head spin but luckily, all the workers there knew exactly what to do with each one!
Now, one day in 1904, some people came to visit the Westinghouse Works and they brought a special new kind of camera with them. It was called a movie camera and it could take pictures that moved and made it look like you were watching a real-life scene happening right in front of you!
So the movie camera people walked around the Westinghouse Works, filming all the different machines and workers doing their jobs. They even filmed the big engines that moved trains and showed how electricity was made by the big generators.
After they were finished filming, they put all the different movie clips together and made them into a really long movie. People could then watch the movie and see what it was like to work in the Westinghouse Works, even if they weren't there in person.
And that's how the Westinghouse Works amazed people all over the world even back in 1904!
