Wetland indicator status

Wetland indicator status tells us if a place is a wetland or not. Wetlands are places where the ground is very wet and has special plants and animals that like living in wet places. The government made a list of special plants that only grow in wetlands, and if there are a lot of those plants in a certain area, then we know that place is a wetland.

The wetland indicator status uses four levels to describe how likely it is that a place is a wetland. The highest level, called "obligate wetland," means that there are a lot of the special plants that only grow in wetlands, so we are pretty sure that the place is a wetland. The lowest level, called "upland," means that there are few or none of the special plants, so it is unlikely that the place is a wetland.

Knowing the wetland indicator status is important because wetlands are really important for the environment. They help keep water clean and provide homes for many animals. If we know that a place is a wetland, we can work to make sure that it stays protected and doesn't get destroyed.
