White flight

White flight is when a lot of people from one racial or cultural group move away from an area because another racial or cultural group is moving into the same area. It usually happens when people who are white (white people) move away from an area because people who are not white (nonwhite people) are moving there. It can also happen with other racial or cultural groups as well. For example, if a lot of people who are African-American (black people) move into an area, some people who are Hispanic (people from Latin America) might move away from the area because they don't want to live near so many black people. White flight can lead to neighborhoods in cities becoming less diverse and more divided by race.
