Wiki spam

Have you ever seen a lot of weird links or advertisements on a website that don't seem to belong there? That's called Wiki Spam.

You know how we are careful about not talking to strangers on the internet? Well, there are some people who try to use the internet to trick other people into clicking on those weird links or buying things they don't need. They do this by putting those links in websites where people go to learn about things, like Wikipedia.

Wikipedia is a place where people go to learn about different things, but sometimes these bad people will go in and add links to their own websites, just so that people will go there and spend money.

This isn't allowed on Wikipedia because it's not fair to people who just want to learn things without being tricked into buying things they don't need. So, the people who run Wikipedia try to delete or remove these spam links so that people can use the website for what it's supposed to be used for - learning!
