ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Wiley Bad Science Series

So, imagine you're playing a game of hide-and-seek with your friends. You're trying to find your friends who are hiding in a big park. But, what if someone was cheating and not really hiding? That wouldn't be fair, right?

Well, that's kind of like what "bad science" is. People might do research that isn't really good or fair, just like someone cheating at hide-and-seek. The Wiley Bad Science Series is a group of books that try to help people understand what bad science is and how to spot it.

Scientists try to figure out the world, and they do research to learn more about it. But sometimes, they may not do the research in the best way. They might leave out important details or not test things enough times to be sure they're right. And sometimes, they might even lie or make things up.

The books in the Wiley Bad Science Series show examples of bad science and explain why they're not good. They also teach people how to be better observers of science, so they can tell if something is true or if it's "bad science" that's just trying to trick you.
