ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Wilfred Bion

Wilfred Bion was a man who studied how people communicate with each other. He was interested in how people talk to each other and how they feel when they talk. He thought that sometimes people don't say what they really mean, and that this can make it hard for them to understand each other.

Bion believed that we all have thoughts and feelings that we don't always know how to express. Sometimes when we talk to other people, we might feel afraid or embarrassed to say what we really mean. Bion called these thoughts and feelings "unconscious" because we don't really know we're having them.

Bion also studied how people work together in groups. He thought that when people work together, they create a kind of "group mind" that is different from what each individual person is thinking. This group mind can have its own thoughts and feelings, and it can affect how people in the group behave.

In short, Bion was interested in the way people communicate and the hidden thoughts and feelings that can impact group dynamics. He worked to understand the ways that people can create and overcome dysfunction in communication and collaboration within these dynamics.
