William Miller was a preacher in the early 1800s in America. He was a Baptist preacher and he believed that the Bible was predicting a date for when the world would end. He preached that this date was sometime between 1843 and 1844. Miller's sermons were popular and sparked a religious movement called Millerism. People would gather in churches and in large tents to hear Miller preach and many people left their regular lives to be part of his movement. Unfortunately, Miller's end-of-the-world predictions didn't come true and people started to doubt his teachings. After this, Miller's influence faded and his movement eventually died in the 1850s.
