ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Wireless network

Okay kiddo, so let's say you have an iPad and you want to access the internet. But your home doesn't have any wires or cords to connect the iPad to the internet. That's where a wireless network comes in!

A wireless network is a way to connect devices to the internet without any cords. Instead, it uses something called radio waves. Just like how you can turn on the radio in your car and hear music or talking, a wireless network sends out radio waves that the iPad can tune into and use to access the internet.

To create a wireless network, you need a few things. The first thing you need is a device called a modem. The modem is what connects to the internet using a wire. The second thing you need is a device called a router. The router takes the internet connection from the modem and puts it out into the air using radio waves.

Think of the modem and router like a bakery. The modem is the oven where the cupcakes are made, and the router is like the display case where the cupcakes are put out for everyone to see.

Now, when you turn on the iPad and search for a wireless network, it will detect the radio waves put out by the router and connect to it. Once it's connected, you can access the internet! Just like how you can browse the toy store when you're at the mall.

And that's it! A wireless network is like magic, where you can connect to the internet without any cords or wires.
