Women in warfare and the military in the 19th century

In the 19th century, women weren't allowed to be soldiers or fight in wars because it was believed that they were too weak and fragile. However, some women still wanted to help their country and be involved in the military.

One way that women could help the military was by working as nurses. Nurses took care of wounded soldiers and helped them get better. They also did other jobs like cooking and washing clothes.

Other women disguised themselves as men and joined the army. They would cut their hair short, wear men's clothing, and change their names to hide their true identity. Some women even fought in battles and were successful soldiers.

At first, these women were not accepted in the military and some of them were punished if their true identity was discovered. However, as time went on, more women were allowed to serve openly in the military and make important contributions.

Overall, while it was difficult for women to participate in warfare and the military during the 19th century, some still found ways to make a difference and help their country.
