When you go to a concert, sometimes you see people playing instruments that are made out of wood. These are called woodwind instruments and they belong to a group called the woodwind section.
The woodwind section includes instruments like the flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, and saxophone. Each of these instruments has a different shape and makes a different sound.
The flute is long and skinny with holes that you cover up with your fingers to make different notes. The clarinet has a mouthpiece that you blow into and keys that you press down to make different notes. The oboe is like the clarinet, but it has a different shaped mouthpiece and makes a more reedy sound. The bassoon is really tall and makes a deep, low sound. The saxophone looks a little bit like the clarinet, but it's bigger and has a curved neck.
When all of these instruments play together, they make beautiful music! Sometimes they play really fast and sometimes they play really slow. They can play really quietly or really loud. They work together to make the music sound just right.
