World War II evacuation and expulsion

World War II was a war that happened from 1939-1945. During that time, many countries in Europe were invaded by Axis powers (countries like Germany, Italy, and Japan). To protect people from danger, a lot of countries had to move people away from harm's way, which was called "evacuation". People were moved to other parts of the country or to another country.

In some cases, whole communities of people were "expelled" or forced to leave their homes in order to make way for the invading forces. These people had to leave behind all of their possessions and go somewhere else. They had to start life all over again.

These evacuations and expulsions were difficult and scary times for the people affected, but they were necessary to protect them from the war.
