Xyston

Well hello there little one! Today, we are going to learn about a very special thing called a xyston. A xyston is a long, pointy stick that was used a very long time ago by people called Greeks who lived in a place called Ancient Greece.

When a Greek soldier was fighting with a xyston, they would hold it with two hands. Then, they would point the very sharp end of the xyston at their enemy and ride on a horse towards them very fast. The xyston was very long, so the Greek soldier could reach their enemy without getting too close and getting hurt.

When the xyston hit the enemy, it would poke them very hard and could sometimes even kill them! That might sound scary, but the Greeks used xystons to protect their friends and family from other groups of people who wanted to hurt them.
