Y linkage

Okay kiddo, let's talk about Y linkage.

So, you know that humans have two types of chromosomes - X and Y. Girls have two Xs, but boys have one X and one Y. The Y chromosome is what makes a person a boy.

Now, some genes are located on the X chromosome and some are located on the Y chromosome. If a gene is located on the X chromosome, it is said to be X linked. And if a gene is located on the Y chromosome, it is said to be Y linked.

Y linkage is a bit different from X linkage because only boys have Y chromosomes. So, if there is a gene that is located on the Y chromosome, it will only be passed down from a father to his sons, and not to his daughters.

This is different from X linked genes because a father can pass down an X linked gene to both his daughters and his sons. But with Y linkage, it's only passed down to his sons.

Does that make sense, kiddo?
