ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

YCbCr

Have you ever seen a rainbow before? Well, just like how a rainbow is made up of different colors, when we talk about pictures or videos, they are made up of different colors too!

YCbCr is a way to describe these colors. It stands for "luminance (brightness), blue, and red." Y represents the luminance (the brightness) of the image, while Cb and Cr represent the blue and red components.

Think of it this way: You have a big wall painted white (that's the brightness or luminance), and you want to add some colors to it. You have two buckets of paint, one blue and one red. By mixing them together, you can create many different shades - this is how the YCbCr works in creating color in an image or video.

When you capture a picture or take a video, the camera creates a big list of numbers that represent all the different colors in the image. This is what we call the YCbCr values. These values help the TV or computer display the picture or video with the right colors.

So, next time you're watching your favorite movie or looking at a picture on your computer screen, remember that YCbCr is what helps create all the different colors you see!
