ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Yazidis

Yazidis are a group of people who live mostly in Iraq, but also in parts of Syria and Turkey. They have their own unique religion which is different from other religions like Christianity or Islam.

Yazidis believe in one God, who they call Melek Taus, the Peacock Angel. They also believe in reincarnation, meaning that after they die, they will come back to life in a different form.

One of the most important features of Yazidi religion is the belief in the sanctity of the Peacock Angel and respect for him. However, this belief has often been misunderstood by others, who have wrongly believed that the Yazidis worship the devil or evil spirits.

In recent times, Yazidis have faced a lot of persecution and discrimination, particularly in Iraq, where they have been targeted by extremist groups like ISIS. Many Yazidis have had to flee their homes to escape violence and oppression.

Despite these challenges, the Yazidi community is still strong and remains committed to preserving their unique culture and religion. They have also received support from around the world to help protect their rights and ensure their safety.
