Yellow line (road marking)

Imagine you are walking on a really big sidewalk that is meant for cars, trucks, and buses to drive on. Now, sometimes when a really big sidewalk like this gets very busy with lots of traffic, it can be hard for the drivers to stay in their own lane and not crash into each other.

So, to make it easier and safer for the cars and other vehicles to stay in their own lane, people paint a yellow line down the middle of the sidewalk. This yellow line is like a big, bright, yellow marker that tells the drivers to stay on their side of the sidewalk.

You might wonder why it is called a "yellow" line. That's because the line itself is painted with special yellow paint that is bright and easy to see. When the cars drive over the yellow line, they can feel a little bump in the road which helps them know they are driving over the line and should move back into their own lane.

So, next time you are in a car with your family and you see a yellow line on the road, you can tell them that it's there to make it safe for all the cars to stay in their own lane and not crash into each other.
