ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Zip bomb

Okay kiddo, so imagine you have a toy chest filled with a lot of toys. Now let's say I give you a very special toy that looks very small, like a marble. But when you hold it, it seems to weigh a lot more than it should.

That's just like a "zip bomb". It's a file that looks like it's really small and easy to download, but once you open it (just like holding the special toy), it could be a lot bigger than you thought it would be.

It's called a "zip" bomb because it's often hidden inside a file you've downloaded, like a zip file. A zip file is like a container that holds other files inside of it.

So when you download a zip bomb, it might seem like a small, harmless file but when you try to open it, it could create a lot of copies of itself and take up a LOT of space on your computer. This can make your computer slow down, or even crash!

So it's important to be careful when downloading things from the internet, and make sure you only download files from trusted sources.
