how waves in the ocean are formed

Waves in the ocean happen when a lot of energy moves through the water. This energy could be from things like big winds blowing very hard, or from earthquakes from a long way away. The energy travels through the water and makes it move up and down. That's what a wave is - a lot of water moving up and down!
