ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

hype cycle

The hype cycle is a tool used to track and explain the way in which new technology gains popularity over time. It shows that when a new technology is introduced, it often gets a lot of buzz and excitement (hype) around it. After the initial excitement, people's interest starts to die down as they realize that the technology isn't as amazing as they first thought. This is followed by a period of skepticism where people are more cautious towards the technology and have doubts about its usefulness or effectiveness. Finally, the technology reaches an acceptance phase where it becomes normal and accepted by people who understand its advantages and disadvantages.
