ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

idealism

Idealism is the belief that the world is ultimately made up of ideas, rather than things. It believes that ideas are the most important and fundamental things that exist. For example, instead of looking at a chair and thinking of it as a physical object, an idealist would focus on all the ideas that went into making it - like a carpenter who made it with wood, or a designer who created a certain shape for it. An idealist would think about how the chair's design and shape can be used to express ideas and emotions.
