Philistus was a Greek historian who lived a long time ago, when people didn't have phones or computers or even cars! He was born in a place called Sicily, which is an island near Italy, and he wrote a lot of things about the history of his country.
When Philistus was alive, lots of different kingdoms and empires were fighting over control of Sicily. The Greeks, the Carthaginians, the Romans, and other groups all wanted to be in charge.
