what is a star

A star is a huge ball of gas in the sky that gives off a lot of heat and light. It looks like a bright point of light in the night sky. We all live on a planet in a star system called the Solar System. Our star is called the Sun. Other stars are much farther away, so we only see them as points of light. Stars are the most common thing in the Universe, and some are millions or billions of years old!
