ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

why Israel blockades / occupies Palestinian territories?

Well, imagine you have a toy and you don't want others to play with it. You decide to keep it all for yourself, so you make sure nobody else can get near it. That's kind of how Israel controls Palestinian territories.

Israel and Palestinians have been having disagreements for a long time, and one of the reasons is because they both want to have control over the same land. Israel believes that the land they have is theirs because of historical and religious reasons, while Palestinians also believe that they have rights to live and own land there.

Now, Israel has blockades and occupies some Palestinian territories for a few different reasons. One reason is security. Israel wants to protect its citizens and make sure they are safe, so they control who goes in and out of the territories. They may see it as a way to prevent any potential threats or attacks.

Another reason is politics and negotiations. Israel and Palestinians have tried to negotiate and make agreements about the land many times, but they haven't always succeeded. So, Israel sometimes occupies these territories to show its strength and to have more power in negotiations with the Palestinians. It’s kind of like when you want something from your friends, and you try to make them agree by being in control.

It's important to note that not everyone agrees with these blockades and occupations. Some people think it's not fair and that Palestinians should have more freedom and ownership over their own land. It's a complicated issue that is still being debated and discussed by many people around the world.
