CNAME record

Okay kiddo, so when we visit a website like "www.google.com", our computer needs to know which internet address (also known as IP address) it should connect to in order to access the website. This is where a special kind of record called a CNAME comes in.

A CNAME record is like a shortcut or nickname for an internet address. It tells your computer that instead of connecting to one internet address, it can connect to another internet address that has a different name.

So, let's say you wanted to visit a website called "www.example.com", but its actual internet address was something really long and hard to remember like "123.456.789.012". With a CNAME record, the website owner could create a nickname like "short.example.com" and set up a CNAME record to connect it to the longer address.

So, when you type in "short.example.com" in your web browser, your computer checks the CNAME record and sees that it's really connected to "123.456.789.012". Then your computer can connect to that internet address and show you the website you wanted to visit!

So, that's what a CNAME record is - a helpful nickname that makes it easier for us to find and access websites on the internet.
