ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dissipative system

A dissipative system is like a recycling machine. It takes energy from one place, changes it into something else, and then sends it back out into the world. For example, a car engine takes in gasoline, changes it into motion and heat, and then sends the heat out into the world. It's an example of a dissipative system because no matter how many times you use the same car engine, it will keep taking in energy and sending it out in new forms.
