ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Free and fair election

Hello there! Let me try to explain what free and fair elections are. Imagine you and your friends are playing a game and you are choosing the captain of your team. This is just like an election where people choose who they want to be in charge of something.

Now, free and fair elections mean that everyone gets to vote without being forced or threatened. It's like if everyone in the group had a chance to vote for their captain, and nobody was being told who they should vote for or punished if they didn't vote a certain way.

In addition to that, everyone has the right to have their vote counted and they can also choose to keep their vote a secret if they want to. Nobody should be able to trick or cheat others into voting for someone they don't want to.

Also, during an election, different people or groups can talk about their ideas and plans. This is called campaigning. It's like if your friends are telling why they think they should be captain or what they would do their best to help the team.

So, free and fair elections mean everyone can vote freely without fear and their votes count. It's an important way that people can choose their leaders and make sure everyone has a say in how things are done.
