ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Human performance technology

Human Performance Technology (HPT) is a way grown-ups help other grown-ups do a better job at work. So, let's say you have a job at a big store and your job is to help people find what they are looking for. Sometimes, you might forget where things are or not know how to answer a question a customer might ask you. That's where HPT comes in to help you do better.

HPT uses a special process to find out what you need to do your job better. It's like when you go to the doctor and they ask you questions to find out what's wrong with you. HPT asks questions, too, but about your job. They might ask you things like, "What do you need to know to do your job better?" or "What tools do you need to use to make your job easier?"

Then, after they ask you all these questions, they help you fix the problem. So, let's say you told them you forget where things are in the store. HPT might teach you how to use a map of the store or have someone show you around so you can remember where things are.

Overall, HPT wants to help people do their jobs better so they can be happier and customers can be happier too.
