ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Landfill

A landfill is a large area of land that is used to store garbage, or waste. It might look like a big pile of trash, but it's actually a managed space that helps keep our environment safe and clean. When garbage is put in a landfill, a special paper or plastic cover is usually used to keep it from leaking out, and to make sure animals can't get into it and get hurt. All kinds of trash can be put in landfills, like food, packaging, furniture, and electronics. Landfills are a better way of dealing with waste than just throwing it out on the ground or into a river, because they keep it in one place and away from people and animals.
