ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Parking chair

When it snows a lot outside, people sometimes have to shovel snow from their driveways and the street in front of their house to make room for their cars to park. But sometimes, after they go out, someone else from the neighborhood might park in that space instead of leaving it for the person who shoveled the snow. To make sure no one takes the spot they worked hard to clear, some people use a parking chair.

A parking chair is a regular chair that someone puts in the middle of the parking spot to let everyone know that it's taken. It's like putting a note that says "this is my parking spot, please don't take it!" Some people use other things instead of chairs like traffic cones, big rocks, or even old buckets. It's important to remember that just because someone put a chair there, it doesn't mean they own the parking spot forever. It's just a way of asking people to respect the hard work someone put into making it available.
