Snow emergency

Imagine that it’s a really snowy day outside and the snow is falling super fast! What would you do if you were in charge of a whole city? You would want to make sure everyone is safe, right? That is why some cities have something called a “snow emergency.”

A snow emergency is when a city or town declares that there is a big problem caused by the snow. The city wants you to be safe, so they tell people to stay off the roads and sidewalks, and to stay inside as much as possible until the snow emergency is over.

When a snow emergency is declared, the city might also have rules that everyone must follow. For example, they might say that cars cannot be parked on certain streets so that snow plows can come and clear the snow. Sometimes they also say that people cannot shovel snow into the street because it can make it harder for the snow plows to do their job.

It might seem like a bummer to stay inside when all you want to do is play in the snow, but the city wants to make sure everyone is safe and that roads and sidewalks are clear so that emergency services like police or ambulances can get where they need to go.

So, even though it may seem like a bummer to miss a day of school or staying inside, just remember that the city is trying to keep everyone safe during the snow emergency!
