Sandpainting

Sandpainting is like making a picture using sand! First, you get a tray and fill it with sand. Then you can use your fingers, tools or even sticks to make a design in the sand. You can make all sorts of patterns and shapes like circles, lines, stars or even faces!

Some people from a place called Navajo use sandpainting as a way to tell stories and teach important lessons. They use natural colors like red, yellow and blue made from rocks and plants to make their designs.

When they're finished with the sandpainting, they might perform a special ceremony where they sing and pray over it. After the ceremony, they just let the wind blow the sand away because the sandpainting is meant to be temporary. It's like making a beautiful picture and then watching it disappear!
