Tophet

A tophet is a very old place where people used to bury their babies who had passed away.

Long, long time ago, people didn't have doctors or medicines like we do now. If a baby got sick and couldn't get better, they would pass away.

Parents would want to give their baby a good resting place, so they would bury them in a special area called a tophet. These places usually have lots of small and special stones called steles to mark each baby's resting spot.
