Weregild

Weregild was a type of payment system used by people in Medieval Europe. If someone did something wrong (like stealing another person's property or killing a person), they had to pay the victim's family or the victim's tribe a certain amount of money called "weregild." This money was like a way of saying sorry and making things right again. Weregild was also used as a way to prevent fights or wars between groups.
