Multiplication is a way of adding a number to itself multiple times. Let's say you wanted to multiply 3 and 4. To do this, you would take the number 3 and add it to itself 4 times. So, 3 plus 3 (6), plus 3 (9), plus 3 (12). When you add 3 to itself 4 times, you get 12. So, 3 times 4 equals 12.
