ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

1300–1400 in fashion

Hey kiddo! Do you know what fashion is? It's when people wear clothes and accessories to look nice and express themselves. So, let's talk about fashion from a long time ago, around the years 1300 to 1400.

During this time, fashion was very different from what we see today. People in Europe, especially those who were rich, wore clothes that made them look very fancy and important. The clothes were also very colorful and had lots of patterns and designs on them.

One thing that was really popular was to wear clothes that fit very tightly. Men wore tight-fitting pants called hose, which went all the way up to their waists. Women wore long, flowing dresses with tight bodices, which means the tops of the dresses were very tight and held their chests in. They also wore very pointy shoes, which made their feet look longer.

Another thing that was popular was wearing lots of layers of clothes. Men would wear a shirt, tunic, and coat all at once, and women would wear a long chemise under their dresses to make them puff out more.

One thing that was different from today is that people wore lots of hats! Men wore big floppy hats or hats with feathers, and women wore tall hats called hennins that were shaped like cones.

Overall, fashion in the 1300s and 1400s was all about looking fancy and important. People wore tight-fitting clothes, lots of layers, and big hats. It's very different from what we wear today, but it's interesting to learn about how things used to be!
