1954 Guatemalan coup d'état

In 1954, a group of people in Guatemala led a movement against the leader of the country, named Jacobo Arbenz. They were upset with some of the things he did as leader, like taking away some of the land from rich people and giving it to poor people. They thought this wasn't fair.

So, these people got help from another country, the United States of America. The USA gave them weapons and money to help them take over the government. They called this a coup d'état.

This made Jacobo Arbenz very scared, so he tried to leave the country. He was able to escape and went to another country.

The people who took over the government in Guatemala were very happy, but some other people in Guatemala were very upset. They didn't like the fact that the USA was able to come into their country and change things.

Overall, the 1954 Guatemalan coup d'état was a time when some people in Guatemala wanted to change the leader of the country, and they got help from the USA to make it happen. Some people were happy about this, but others were not.
