1968 Olympics Black Power salute

In the 1968 Olympics, two African-American athletes, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, made a gesture called the "black power salute" to show their support for the civil rights movement. They stood on the medal podium during the medal ceremony, and each of them raised a black-gloved fist into the air. This was to show their pride in being African-American and to represent the struggle for equality. People around the world noticed this powerful gesture and it helped to show that black people deserved the same rights and respect as everyone else.
