1977 Egyptian bread riots

In 1977, people in Egypt were very upset because the government decided to increase the price of bread. Bread was really important for people because it was a staple food that almost everyone ate every day.

So, when the government started charging more for bread, a lot of people could no longer afford to buy it. This made them angry because they felt like the government was taking away something they needed to survive.

Many people took to the streets to protest and some of the protests turned violent. Buildings were burned down and stores were looted. The police were called in to try to control the crowds, but it only made things worse.

Eventually, the government decided to lower the price of bread again to try to calm things down. While this helped, the riots had already done a lot of damage and it showed that the people were not happy with the government's policies.

The 1977 Egyptian bread riots taught us that people can get very upset when something as important as food becomes too expensive. It also showed that governments need to listen to the needs of their citizens and take their concerns seriously.
