1984 Rajneeshee bioterror attack

In 1984, a group of people called the Rajneeshees wanted to make their city, Rajneeshpuram, more powerful. To do this, they decided to make people sick by putting something called salmonella in the food that was served around the city. Salmonella is a kind of bacteria that can make people very sick, with symptoms like fever, abdominal cramps, vomiting, and diarrhea. They did this by adding the salmonella to salad bars in local restaurants so that anyone who ate the food would get sick. As a result of this bioterror attack, over 750 people got very sick and 45 people had to be hospitalized. Luckily, nobody died because of the attack. To this day, the Rajneeshees still hold the record for the largest bioterror attack in the United States.
