ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

2016 United States gubernatorial elections

Okay kiddo, so every few years in the United States, we have something called an election where people get to vote for who they want to be in charge of different parts of the government. In 2016, one kind of election was for the governor of different states.

The governor is like the boss of the state. They make important decisions about things like schools, roads, and taxes. The people who want to be governor have to go through a process called campaigning. This means they go around and talk to lots of people about why they would be a good governor. They might have big posters with their names on them or be on TV a lot.

When it's time to vote, people go to a special place called a polling place and fill out a ballot. It's kind of like filling out a test, but instead of getting a grade, they are helping to decide who the governor will be.

The person who gets the most votes at the end of the day becomes the governor! It's kind of like if you and your friends were choosing what game to play and the one that most people wanted to play was the winner.

That's a basic explanation of the 2016 United States gubernatorial elections. Hope that helps!
