ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

2017 pro-jallikattu protests

Once upon a time, there was a tradition in a place called Tamil Nadu where people would have a big party to celebrate a festival. They would play a game called Jallikattu, which is like a big game of tag between a person and a bull.

But some people were worried about the bulls getting hurt during the game, so they said it was not safe and wanted to stop it. The government agreed and made a rule that banned Jallikattu.

This made a lot of people in Tamil Nadu very upset because they loved playing the game and it was an important part of their culture. So they decided to protest and ask the government to change the rule and allow them to play Jallikattu again.

People all over the state came together and had peaceful protests, which means they were marching and holding up signs to express their feelings. They even stayed up all night in a place called Marina Beach to show that they were serious about their demand.

Finally, after many days of protests and discussions with the government, the rule was changed and Jallikattu was allowed again. Everyone was very happy and celebrated the victory.
