ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

2019 Croatian protests

Okay, so imagine you and your friends really don't like something that's happening in your town. Maybe you don't think it's fair, or you think it's hurting people. So you decide to all get together and walk down the street, holding signs and shouting things so that everyone else knows how you feel.

That's kind of what happened in Croatia in 2019. A bunch of people got really upset with their government because they thought it was corrupt, which means it was doing things that weren't fair or for the good of the people. They also didn't like that the government had proposed some laws that they thought were really bad.

So, they organized protests, which means they all got together to walk around holding signs and shouting things. They did this in many different cities, and sometimes there were thousands of people at these protests!

The people who were protesting wanted the government to know that they were unhappy, and they wanted other people to know too. They wanted everyone to understand that they thought the government needed to change some things.

The protests went on for a few months, and some of them even got pretty violent, which means people started breaking things or hurting each other. But even though it wasn't always peaceful, the protests did get a lot of attention and made a lot of people think about what was happening in Croatia.
