5B is a documentary about nurses, doctors, and everyday heroes who came together to provide comfort and dignity to the first AIDS patients in San Francisco in the early 1980s. It tells the story of how the staff of Ward 5B at San Francisco General Hospital fought sexism, homophobia, and a lack of resources to provide care to the thousands of AIDS patients who would be admitted over the next decade. Through interviews with staff, as well as archival footage, photographs and diary entries, 5B celebrates the bravery of these medical professionals and everyday heroes who risked their own lives to care for their patients in their time of need.
