613 mitzvot are the laws which Jewish people (people who follow the Jewish religion) must follow. These laws come from the Torah - the five books which teach the Jewish faith. The Torah was given to Moses by God on Mount Sinai. The mitzvot in the Torah include rules about how to worship God, what to eat, how to act, and how to treat other people. By following the mitzvot, Jewish people show their faith and respect for God.
