The AI Effect is when people think technology is more advanced than it is because they are more familiar with the idea of artificial intelligence (AI). So they may think that a computer or a robot is doing something smarter than it is, when it actually isn't. For example, a computer can recognize your face in a photo, but it isn't actually thinking about who you are or why it knows you - it's just really good at recognizing patterns.
