Ab Anbar

An ab anbar is a type of cistern or well used for storing drinking water in Persian architecture. It usually is built underground, with a dome-shaped roof made of bricks of mud or stone. Ab anbars are usually connected to a qanat, which is an underground channel used for bringing water into the cistern. The ab anbar is a very important part of Iranian culture, and the roofs are often decorated with intricate designs.
