Persian antiquity is a very old time in history, which was thousands of years ago. People living in Persian antiquity didn't have the same kinds of technology that we have today, so it was hard for them to get fresh water. Instead, they had to look for natural sources of water, like rivers, lakes, ponds, and wells. Generally, they were able to get the water they needed from these traditional water sources, such as round pools called qanats. Qanats were dug very deep into the ground and were designed to bring fresh water up from aquifers, which are large underground reservoirs of water. People could also find water in streams, reservoirs, or collected from rain.
